Noadswood Girls win Hampshire football tournament!

June 12, 2015

Hampshire FA hosted the female World Cup Schools Tournament with 15 teams in attendance. The tournament was aimed at years 7 & 8 (U13s) with each team selected to represent a country at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The draw for the groups was conducted by Lauren Bruton, Vice-Captain at Reading FC Women with a short video produced to announce all the schools and their teams. Noadswood were drawn as Australia.

The tournament in partnership with Reading FC Women, Chelsea Ladies FC and Channel 10 Media was launched to support the Women’s World Cup and to raise awareness of female football activity including the Women’s Super League, Women’s FA Cup and to promote female participation in football.

Channel 10 Media brought along The FA Women’s Cup to allow the girls to have their photo taken with their school and the Cup, whilst Reading FC Ladies and Chelsea Ladies FC supported the tournament by scheduling player appearances with Laura Rafferty (Chelsea Ladies FC), Rebekah Haines and Chloe Sansom (Reading FC) all in attendance. The ladies posed for photographs and conversed with the girls at the tournament to inspire the younger generation of female future footballers.

All the girls played extremely well in the four group games which ended in us winning the group! We then faced Mexico in the quarterfinals winning 1-0, then after a very tough semi-final against Germany, we reached the final after winning 1-0. In the final all the girls worked hard as a team and two outstanding goals from Ella Morris and a super save from our keeper Rose Brown meant we beat Cameroon (Saint George Catholic School) 2-0 in the final!

As well as a fab trophy, the girls received free tickets to watch Reading Ladies and the chance to visit the Chelsea ladies training ground.
