Over the Easter holidays I was lucky enough to be a ball person and flag bearer for both the England men’s and women’s football teams, which was a brilliant and proud experience.
First of all I went to Wembley where England men played Italy in a friendly. I was chosen as I am part of the England Women’s U16 squad, which means the girls take it in turns to be a ball person. I was the ball girl behind one of the goals, and had to collect and throw the ball back to the players when it came near me.
80,000 people attended this game as well as millions more people watching on the TV.
The week after Wembley I was at St Mary’s, the home of Southampton Football Club. This time I was there with the U16 Southampton Girls. England Women were playing Wales in a World Cup qualifier and there were about 25,000 people in the crowd. The game was also on TV. For this match, I was a ball girl again and I also had to hold up one of the flags as the teams came out at the start. I held the Wales flag.
I really enjoyed these experiences and it’s given me some great memories to look back on when I’m older.
