Jake attended the World Fight Sport and Marshall Arts Council (WFMC) selection trials in Birmingham and qualified to represent Team GB in the 2019 World Championships for Kickboxing. He qualified in both, light continuous and points categories for his age and weight.
After several months of intense Team GB training and becoming the British champion for both categories, Jake joined Team GB to journey to the championships in Nordhorn, Germany held between the 18th and 20th October 2019.
Team GB consisted of approximately 40 competitors and Coaches representing different ages and weights in many Marshall Arts disciplines including MMA, K1 and Kickboxing.
The WFMC has 53 member nations and the majority had representation at Nordhorn. Registration and weigh in commenced on the Friday with the main completion starting on the Saturday. Jake’s Categories were both scheduled for the Sunday but there was plenty to watch while support his team mates on the Saturday.
Jake reached the final in both Points and light Continuous against fighters from other nations. Both categories consist of two 1 ½ minute rounds. In points a point is scored for each legal strike, stopping and restarting after each point. Jake narrowly missed out on winning the points completion and gained a silver medal. The winner of a light continuous match is decided, if there is no knock out, by three judges. Jake fought courageously against a far more experienced fighter and again was awarded a silver medal.
Jake holds high aspirations of becoming a world champion and is determined to re-qualify for the 2020 Championships in Turkey and we wish him all the luck getting there!
