HOW IS THE DECISION MADE ABOUT THE TYPE AND HOW MUCH SUPPORT MY CHILD WILL RECEIVE?
The aim of our provision is to identify and access the SEND and then to plan the provision needed for each young person to achieve his/her best at Noadswood.
At Noadswood we have identified 3 categories of need.
These students will require some intervention to ensure that they get back on-track in terms of their attainment in literacy and numeracy. This will also include pupils who have additional needs such as being a Looked After Person.
These students will require not only Step 1 support but additional support to remove barriers to learning. This could be interventions from CAMHS, the Educational Psychologist Service and medical professionals. They will work in conjunction with school to optimise student’s chances of making good progress and achieving their potential.
These students will have an EHCP or have severe and complex needs that require a team of professionals to support their learning.
To ensure our young people make the progress to achieve their learning potential the following pathway is followed.
A detailed transition meeting is held with our Feeder Schools to discuss needs and past academic history. We will assess the needs of that student to identify their area of need.
A meeting will be arranged with the young person and their parents to talk about what is needed and an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) will be put together.
To be able to put this plan together the following information will be collected:
• the young person’s views and what he/she would like to achieve as they either embark or continue their five years at Noadswood
• the views of parents and what they would like to see as an outcome of their child’s time at Noadswood
• a series of school based learning assessments
• an understanding of current and expected levels of progress/attainment
An opportunity will be given to meet again and in partnership draw up a plan. The ILP will contain some outcomes to enable everyone to support the student with their learning pathway. A review date will be set in the meeting.
The ISP will be reviewed by a Senior LSA or SENCo termly. Parents will be invited to these reviews by letter.
This is in addition to, and complementary to, the normal reporting arrangements in Noadswood.
Some SEND young person, may have needs that require support from professionals outside the school setting. This advice will be used to enhance a students learning. This advice would always be considered when writing an ILP.
Examples of this could be
• parent seeking medical advice about the young person
• the school requesting Educational Psychologist involvement with the young person
• advice from specialist Disability Teams
The Education and Health Care Plan will replace the Statement of Education Needs. It will include in one document Special Educational provision, health provision and social care provision.
Hampshire SEN Department will be responsible for EHC Plan and reviews will be held at least once a year to ensure that all is well.
Students who currently have a Statement of Education needs will continue to be provided with support to meet the objectives in Part B.
Common Assessment Form
In order to help your son/daughter achieve their learning potential we may ask your permission to fill in a Common Assessment Form (CAF). A member of staff, who is known to you, will ask you to provide information about your child and your family and in your presence will fill in the CAF. We will only include information that you tell the member of staff. The CAF will provide an overview of your family and will help us to decide together what we need to organise next. The CAF is a confidential document and will not be shared with anyone unless you have given your permission to do so.
Families who have helped us to fill in CAFs have found this a good experience, often bringing back happy or funny memories from their child’s younger days. They have also found that the agreed referral to appropriate agencies has helped them to support their child to be successful at Noadswood.
