There’s only room for one big mouth in my organization and that’s me.
I gotta tell ya, you’re fired!
Why do shops have sales after Christmas?
How do you make Cadbury’s Dairy Milk?
When do you know that your business is making a profit?
Who owns the Coca Cola Company?
What do you need to know before applying for a job?
These are just some of the questions that are answered by doing Business Studies at Noadswood School. Business Studies is around in everything you do, whether it is calling someone to clean your windows or getting some bargains for your X Box 360. At Noadswood we try to give you information about the world around you and help you to understand how and why things happen in the society in which we live.
Business Studies is started in year 10 as one of your GCSE option subjects and covers five main topic areas. By the end of the course you will have a fundamental understanding of business and how this works in the world in which we live.
We start by teaching about who owns and controls businesses and why people go into business, what are our needs and what do we just want to make our lives better?
After this we move on to look at people in business which thinks about why people work, how are people hired and fired and how do you decide who is the perfect person for a job.
Next is the bit that most people think they know at least something about, marketing (and no, this does not just mean advertising). Why do shops put chocolate bars by the check outs, why has the term BOGOF become something that we all know about?
We then look at production and how things are made. This lets us think about quality and why this is so important. Money, no business can function without it and so we look at where it comes from and where it goes to, how do you make it and what do a set of company accounts look like?
Finally we look at how business operates in the real world from cotton making in China to the happy people of Bhutan.
