Citizenship education is about equipping students with the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to engage with their community and the wider world.
Students in year 7, 8 and 9 have one hour of Citizenship per fortnight.
In year 7 students focus on, Why Citizenship?, Rights and Citizenship, Immigration, Local Community and Democracy.
In year 8 students focus on Economy – An Introduction, Drug Awareness including Alcohol and Britain – A Diverse Society.
In year 9 students focus on Young People, Crime and the Law, Sex and Relations, Are We Free, Career Options, Finances and World of Work.
Use of websites
Students in year 9 use the NatWest website which gives the students the opportunity to learn about Finances.
All staff teaching Citizenship are given access to the learning website Doddle which has lots of resources available to use and support their lessons.
The Careers Advisor also works closely with all year groups to give advice, information and guidance on Careers. All students are given the opportunity to access the Careers website U Explore.
Each year group has a Citizenship type day.
