Students and staff at Noadswood School have donated an amazing 292kg worth of Food to the local Waterside Food Bank as part of their Christmas collection appeal.
Following assemblies in November, highlighting the work of the Food Bank and the need of this support particularly through the festive season, the Noadswood school community joined together and donated enough food to provide approximately 905 meals to those in need.
Jan Hayter, Food Bank co-ordinator put this donation into context, explaining that in one December week alone, 43 emergency foodboxes were given to 155 people.
The original plan of making the delivery by car had to be changed to a swift Plan B when we began to load the donations. Over half of a Noadswood School minibus was filled with boxes and bags bursting at the seams, leaving just enough room for 3 students to be accompanied by staff to deliver the donations to Jan and her team.
Helen Loveday, Assitant Headteacher said “It was humbling to learn how our donations will be packaged into parcels for those in our local community who need this type of support.”
